Shellac Nails FAQ
What is Shellac?
It is a hybrid, meaning half nail polish, half gel. The product is thin and strong enough to be applied similarly to nail polish, but it is cured in a way that gives it great flexibility and durability. It also has the incredible shine associated only with gel nails.
Who is Shellac best suited for?
Shellac is for people who want to maintain natural nails. The formulation looks as good from day 1 to day 14, but does not damage nail beds.
Who is Shellac least suited for?
Those looking to lengthen their natural nails. You cannot use Shellac to create a longer nail.
Can you apply Shellac at home?
No, Shellac can only be applied by a licensed, trained manicurist. Improper tools or techniques will give a less than desirable result with Shellac.
How is Shellac different a traditional manicure?
Typically nail polish dries by evaporation, which means your nails are not completely dry until 2-3 hours after your Manicure. Most time spent on your manicure is spent waiting for the polish to dry.
Shellac is cured by UV light, and literally within minutes. Your nails will be completely dry by the time your manicure is over, and strong enough to withstand accidental knocks. It acts like a plasticized coating, suitable as a long lasting polish.
How is a a Shellac treatment different from traditional ‘fake nails’?
Drills will never be used or needed with Shellac, filing of the nail plate is never an occurrence and removal does not leave the nails dry, thin, or possibly even torn. Solar Oil is used to help hydrate the nails at all times.
Why is Shellac better than artificial nails?
We feel there is nothing more exciting than seeing natural nails on our clients that look just fantastic!
While we love whats possible through gel nails or liquid & powder, we feel artificial nails are often used to cover up nail problems such as peeling, and splitting, we aim to improve the condition of the nail whilst still making the look and feel fantastic!
Shellac withstands even the rigors of daily salon life and can therefore withstand the busy lifestyles so many of us have the what we put our nails through!
Do I need a patch test?
Patch testing for eyelash extensions is no longer mandatory and therefore you can have lashes without having a patch test. Please note however that we offer patch tests at any time and no appointment is necessary for this.
How is the procedure done?
The adhesive has been formulated to create a permanent polypeptide bond, specifically to use on natural lashes, the bond dries and remains flexible and bouncy meaning no damage to your natural lash. Each individual synthetic Lash is applied directly to a individual natural lash and each done one lash at a time hence the length of time they take to apply. Your eyes are closed throughout the procedure and eyepads are used to ensure your bottom lashes are secure and away from the glue.
How long do they take to apply?
The application of a full set of lashes can take up to 2 hours dependent on your natural lash and we do not like to rush the process so you can relax and enjoy the experience before being wowed by your new lashes!
Will they damage my natural lashes?
Lashes are like any other extension i.e nails/hair. Lashes need to be cared for correctly following application and removed correctly to avoid any damage to the natural lash. We will dicsuss this with you at your appointment.
How will they look and feel?
The Lashes are soft, weightless and naturally curved and they do not touch the skin.
How can I remove the lashes?
We recommend that your lashes are removed professionally. If you are not having infills then your lashes should be removed by us around week 4 to avoid the temptation of picking, pulling or any other home technique to remove them as this could cause damage to the natural lash.
How do I look after my lash extensions?
After your treatment you will be given an aftercare card to take home and a small brush for your lashes. This should be followed to ensure your lashes stay looking their best at all times.
What are the benefits of having lash extensions over strip lashes?
These eyelash extensions are resistant to water, showering & sweating. They are therefore perfect for gym users & swimmers, nights out and holidays. Strip lashes are applied for only 1 day, lash extensions can last for up to 2 months with infill’s.
Does it hurt?
No, in fact you will find the treatment very relaxing as you get to lay and do nothing for a while!
How much does it cost?
Please refer to the Prices page for costs
What looks can be achieved?
Most people go for a natural but fuller and slightly longer look, however, you can achieve a dramatic look using the thickest, longest lashes if this is desired.
